Following WorleyParsons’ appointment in March 2016 as PMC for the ASORC Naphtha Complex Project in Egypt by Assiut Oil Refining Company (ASORC), which entailed providing PMC services for the project across two phases over four years, WorleyParsons is preparing to commence with PMC services for Phase B.
Phase A, which is now complete, entailed PMC services for the development of the EPC tender package, and review and evaluation of the EPC bids. With the appointment of the EPC contractor finalized at the official contract signing ceremony on 24 August, WorleyParsons is currently mobilizing the PMC team for Phase B, which includes management and supervision of the EPC contractor at the EPC contractor’s head office during the design and procurement stages, and on site in Assiut during the construction stage.
Owned by the Assiut Oil Refining Company (ASORC), a subsidiary of the main NOC Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), the Assiut refinery is located approximately 400 km south of Cairo and was established in 1984 to meet the Upper Egypt region’s needs for petroleum products. The project involves the upgrade of the refinery, which will result in the addition of a new Naphtha complex (including a Naphtha Hydrotreater Unit (NHT), a CCR Reforming unit and an Isomerization Unit) with a capacity of 660 KTPY of straight run Naphtha that will provide high octane and different grades of gasoline. The plant provides a major share of neighboring provinces’ demand for petroleum products and derivatives.
WorleyParsons has a strong track record of delivering outstanding PMC services in the Middle East and Africa region. “In order to meet the customer’s requirements for the services required for the ASORC Naphtha Complex Project, our PMC team will be responsible to represent the customer in all project phases including review and approval through our experienced PMC staff to ensure that the EPC contractor fulfills its obligations,” says Krish Iyer, Regional Managing Director – Middle East/Africa for WorleyParsons. “We look forward to the successful delivery and completion of this project which will help support Egypt’s demands for petroleum products.”
