On 15 May 2013 the Ministry of Environment and Water (MoEW) of the Republic of Bulgaria approved the Report on Environmental Impact Assessment for the South Stream Pipeline (EIA).
Approval of the EIA Report means that the Pipeline construction and its further operation are in full compliance with all Bulgarian and European environmental legislation requirements.
Thus, an essential practical step towards the Project implementation has been taken. Besides, a permission to use the best available technology for the construction of compressor stations within “South Stream on the territory of Bulgaria” Project has been granted. Next phase for “South Stream Bulgaria” AD will include public hearings regarding the EIA Report in 39 communities.
The EIA Report materials are available in the central offices of all the relevant communities, MoEW, “South Stream Bulgaria” AD and the Regional Inspectorates of Environment and Water in the cities of Varna, Veliko Turnovo, Vratsa, Montana, Pleven, Rousse and Shumen.
