Tepsa accelerates Spanish growth in Huelva and Tarragona
Tepsa’s Spain expansion reaches two significant achievements this year. The development of a new terminal in Huelva and the Final Investment Decision (FID) for Tank Pit 10 in Tarragona reflect the company’s commitment to expanding strategic infrastructure that supports the evolving needs of the chemical industry while enabling the energy transition.

Together, these projects strengthen Tepsa’s position as a leading independent storage operator in Spain, enhancing connectivity between key industrial hubs and building the infrastructure needed for tomorrow’s supply chains.

Expanding to Huelva: a new gateway for chemicals and new energy products

Tepsa has been awarded a concession of approximately 5 hectares by the Port Authority of Huelva, marking an important step in the development of what will become the company’s fifth terminal in Spain. Environmental permits have already been secured, and Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) is currently underway. Commercial operations are targeted for 2029.

Located in Spain’s second-largest petrochemical hub and one of Europe’s most competitive regions for renewable energy production, the future terminal has been designed to handle chemicals, biofuels and new energy products, with permits already approved for ammonia.

The facility will provide independent storage solutions supporting multiple logistics flows, from imports and distribution to regional hub operations. Developed in phases to match market demand, it will offer additional flexibility for customers while supporting the growth of low-carbon value chains.

“Huelva is a strategic location for Tepsa, expanding our network across all Spanish coastlines and strengthening our position along the trade routes connecting the Mediterranean with the Americas and Asia. The Huelva terminal will provide a platform for future growth in new energy products and molecules,” says Nuria Blasco, Managing Director of Tepsa Iberia.

With this expansion to the Atlantic coast, Huelva completes Tepsa’s presence across Spain’s main maritime corridors and strengthens connections between Northern and Southern Europe.

Tarragona continues its growth

At the same time, Tepsa has reached the Final Investment Decision for Tank Pit 10 (TP10) at its Tarragona terminal, confirming another important investment in one of the Mediterranean’s leading chemical hubs.

The project will add eight new tanks and 21,000 m³ of storage capacity, supported by an investment of €18.3 million, with completion expected in July 2028.

Since operations began in 1986 with 25,000 m³ of storage capacity, the Tarragona terminal has grown steadily, and will reach approximately 150,000 m³ once the TP10 expansion is complete. This continued investment reflects Tepsa’s confidence in the region and its determination to grow alongside customers operating in both specialty and commodity chemical markets.

Building the infrastructure for tomorrow

The Huelva and Tarragona projects represent complementary steps in Tepsa’s long-term strategy.

While Tarragona strengthens capacity within one of Europe’s largest chemical clusters, Huelva opens new opportunities on the Atlantic coast for chemicals, biofuels and emerging energy products. Together, these investments reinforce the resilience of Tepsa’s Spanish network, improve customer access to strategic logistics corridors and support the development of more sustainable supply chains.

As demand continues to evolve, Tepsa remains focused on investing in infrastructure that combines operational excellence with long-term value creation, helping customers navigate both industrial growth and the transition towards lower-carbon energy solutions.
