Tebodin & Partner in Oman, completed a major project for Orpic Logistics LLC (OLC) in Oman successfully. Project management and construction supervision (PMC) for the $336 million investment EPC contract was awarded to Tebodin & Partner end 2014. The Muscat-Sohar Product Pipeline (MSPP) and Al Jifnain Terminal project is one of Orpic’s strategic growth projects.
The project is an important logistic project across the Sultanate of Oman, which will deliver more than 50% of Oman’s fuel via the new state-of-the-art storage facility in Al Jifnain, located 30 km from Muscat International Airport, through a total of 290 km new pipelines between Muscat and Sohar refineries, Al Jifnain Terminal and the Muscat International Airport. In addition to meeting the domestic future demand for fuels, this project will reduce pollution resulting from lower truck movements in Muscat capital area by 70%.
The new terminal has a total storage capacity of 170,000 m3 in 12 above ground tanks. It is equipped with 16 loading bay facilities designed to load up to 700 trucks per day with refined hydrocarbons (Gasoline 91 and 95, Diesel and Jet A1). Tebodin & Partner completed the PMC contract with 85,500 man-hours between 2015 and 2018, free from any health and safety incident.
The construction was executed by the EPC Contractor GPS in more than 13 million LTI-free man-hours. Kumar Shanmugham, Director of Bilfinger Tebodin & Partner in Oman: ‘We are extremely proud that we were able to contribute to this major development and the successful completion.
This project is the first of its kind to be constructed in Oman — removing the need for Orpic to ship refined products between its refineries in Sohar and Mina Al Fahal (Muscat), and bringing a new level of efficiency and lower costs to its business.
The terminal and the pipelines have been successfully commissioned in phases within the allocated budget and the official inauguration took place on March 21, 2018.
