Statoil-Total New Gas Discovery in the North Sea
Statoil and partner Total have made a gas and condensate discovery at the Julius prospect in the King Lear area of the North Sea.

The location of Julius and King Lear discoveries demonstrate that even mature areas of the Norwegian continual shelf that first had commercial discoveries 45 years ago still have interesting exploration potential. Well 2/4-23S has proved gas and condensate from the Ula formation and the volumes are estimated to be between 15-75 million barrels of recoverable oil equivalent. The well has provided information on the reservoir distribution and reservoir communication in the King Lear discovery which has estimated recoverable oil equivalent of 70-200 million barrels.

Spectrum’s ‘Seamless Seismic’ Multi-Client product in the North Sea includes modern 3D seismic covering the area. Using this data, our geoscientists have identified the level of the discovery, giving an excellent insight into hydrocarbon potential.
