Spectrum Geo plans to make a significant investment in the Pernambuco-Paraíba sedimentary basin offshore Brazil through Multi-Client seismic surveys designed to assist in uncovering the oil and gas prospectivity of this highly promising region. This announcement was made by the Minister of Mines and Energy, Fernando Coelho Filho, during a forward-looking strategic planning meeting entitled “O planejamento estratégico da matriz veicular do Brasil até 2030”, held on March 26, 2018 at the Federation of Industries of Pernambuco.
The minister explained, “Spectrum is awaiting an environmental license to start seismic mapping”, he added that with the announcement of an annual exploration licensing auction policy, companies such as Spectrum were are again willing to invest in seismic “to offer (these products) to the oil companies that will participate in the auctions and want to know better the basin’s marine subsoil.”
Spectrum Geo general manager João Corrêa, who participated in the event, predicts that seismic data will be offered in the 16th round of ANP bids, scheduled to take place in 2019. Correa told the assembled delegates that the acquisition of seismic data, such as that proposed by Spectrum, is the first and most indispensable step in the chain of processes which lead to oil and gas discovery.
This new acquisition, the latest in a series of key seismic projects conducted by Spectrum all along the Brazilian coastline, is expected to consist of 6,000 km of seismic data. The data will be processed in Spectrum’s Houston imaging center with PSTM, PSDM and Broadband products expected to be available in time for the 2019 licensing round.
