SHI receives Shell's firm order for the first FLNG
SHI (Samsung Heavy Industries) and GTT are proud to announce that the first official order for an FLNG platform has been placed by SHELL on June 1st 2011.

GTT and SHI had signed in Saint Rémy Lès Chevreuse (France) on October 13th 2010 a Technical Work Contract to respond to the SHELL gFLNG FEED.

GTT President says: ”it is obviously a major milestone for our industry, it is also a very significant sign of confidence for membrane technologies to be selected for such a demanding development”.

The platform is intended to be operated in the Prelude field in North West Australia some 200 km from the shore.

The Mark III system of GTT has been retained for the containment system and it will feature the “double-row” configuration. This order is the outcome of nearly ten years of close cooperative work between Shell and GTT. It is also a great opportunity to bring together representatives of different industries to achieve successful team work.

The facility will have an LNG storage capacity of 231 500 m3 (6 tanks) and 94 700 m3 of LPG (4 tanks). The barge will be 488 meters long with a breadth of 74 meters. Delivery is scheduled in September 2016.

The SHELL gFLNG is the first ever large scale floating platform project for the liquefaction of LNG to reach the stage of firm order. Some say as many as ten units could be ordered once the concept is stabilised. These units would be project specific.
