Saipem wins new onshore contracts worth Euros 500 million
Saipem has been awarded new onshore contracts for a total value of approximately € 500 million.

In Australia, Saipem, in consortium with Leighton Contractors, has been awarded by Chevron the EPC contract for the Gorgon LNG jetty and marine structures project.

The scope of work will consist of the engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction and commissioning of the LNG jetty and related marine structures for the new Chevron Gorgon LNG plant on Barrow Island, 70 kilometres off the Pilbara coast of Western Australia.

The jetty will be 2.1 kilometres long consisting of steel trusses approximately 70m long supported by 55 concrete caissons leading to the loading platforms approximately four kilometres from the shore. The marine structure will include a heavy lift facility, tug pens and navigation aids. The use of concrete caissons for supports will reduce the environmental impact of the jetty construction by eliminating the use of the traditional piled construction method, which would have required hundreds of steel piles to be driven into the sea bed. The works are expected to be completed in 2013.

The Gorgon Project is a joint venture between the Australian subsidiaries of Chevron (Operator), ExxonMobil and Shell, to develop the Greater Gorgon gas fields, located between 130km and 200km off the north-west coast of Western Australia. The Greater Gorgon gas fields contain resources of about 40 trillion cubic feet of gas, Australia’s largest-known gas resource.

In Kuwait, Saipem has been awarded by Kuwait Oil Company the EPC contract for the replacement of the compressors systems at the KOC’s Gathering Centres 07, 08 and 21, in the south of the Country.

The scope of work will consist of the engineering, procurement, demolition and disposal of existing facilities, construction, installation, commissioning, and training of personnel for three new single electricity-driven LP centrifugal compressors - one each at the 3 Gathering Centres - complete with inlet and discharge scrubbers and power and control system. The works will be completed in approximately 32 months.

Finally, in Italy, Canada and Kazakhstan, Saipem has been awarded new contracts, for the performance of various Technical Services, as well as for the design and execution of new projects in “Renewables and Environment” market areas.

Technical Services typically consist of front end and continuing engineering and project management services provided to Saipem’s customers. “Renewables and Environment” refers to a recently consolidated business line within Onshore business unit, which focuses on new projects for water and soil remediation, for emissions abatement and for power production from renewable energy sources.
