RWE Dea is pleased to report the completion of the previously announced series of acquisitions in the Breagh Field area in the UK Southern North Sea. While Sterling Resources Ltd. retains a 30 percent interest in the asset RWE Dea takes over an aggregate 70 percent stake and operatorship.
The estimated resources make Breagh and the surrounding fields the largest undeveloped natural gas discovery in the UK Southern North Sea. “Completion of the Breagh acquisition is a major milestone in bringing this field into production. Breagh fits very well into RWE Dea's technical expertise in developing gas fields and we hope to achieve initial gas production at the end of 2012,” said Thomas Rappuhn, Chief Operating Officer of RWE Dea AG. “Production from this field will contribute significantly to our overall aim to double RWE Dea’s natural gas and oil production within the next few years.”
The estimated net resources are substantial and will make a significant contribution to the growth of RWE Dea’s gas reserves. Further upside potential is expected in the surrounding exploration blocks. The Breagh gas field is located in Blocks 42/12a and 42/13a of the UK Southern North Sea, 65 kilometres from the Northeast coast of England and 86 kilometres from the Cavendish gas field, which is also operated by RWE Dea. The sellers are Sterling Resources (UK) Ltd., EnCore Oil plc., EnCore Petroleum Ltd., RegEnersys Ltd., Stratic Energy (UK) Ltd., Stratic Energy (Developments) Ltd., Faroe Petroleum (U.K.) Ltd. and Petro Ventures International Ltd..
