PGS: Moray Firth Opportunities in 2019 License Round
Fast-track 3D data is now available for the upcoming Supplementary Licensing Round in the UK Outer Moray Firth, Greater Buchan Area. The data displays a significant broadband uplift for a better understanding of the potential and the plays.

The OGA estimates reserves for the area amount to 150 – 300 Mbboe and the UK authority is calling for industry collaboration to explore and develop infrastructure.

PGS has fresh fast-track results from its brand new, high-density 3D GeoStreamer Moray Firth data survey. This area has considerable exploration potential and possible plays that vary from a fractured basement to shallower Cretaceous targets.

Three 3D broadband GeoStreamer surveys cover nearly 7 400 sq. km of the Moray Firth area of the North Sea. The data was acquired in 2018 and fast-track data is now out. The broadband uplift has produced a significant improvement in understanding.

This MultiClient dataset covers a large swathe of the prolific outer Moray Firth-Orcadian Basin area, with primary targets in the proven Upper Jurassic and Lower Cretaceous plays.

According to Gunhild Myhr, PGS VP New Ventures Europe, "The new high-density GeoStreamer data and the most up-to-date processing technology have been used to improve the understanding of both source and reservoir potential. The OGA technical guidelines encourage the use of the best available seismic data, and this is clearly it."

The key imaging challenge of Moray Firth is the masking of deep structures by a combination of shallow water and complex shallow overburden.

Imaging all Recorded Wavefields
PGS has applied a Complete Wavefield Imaging (CWI) workflow to solve the shallows and reveal the deep. CWI utilizes GeoStreamer multisensor technology to process and image all recorded wavefields. The technology utilizes reflections, refractions (FWI) and multiples (SWIM). To produce accurate velocity models through full integrity imaging.
