PGNiG, PGE, TAURON, KGHM and ENEA wish to cooperate in shale gas exploration
The group of companies willing to cooperate in shale gas exploration is growing. ENEA has just joined in with TAURON Polska Energia, KGHM and PGE - the three listed companies which for several weeks now have been discussing possible cooperation in the exploration and production of unconventional gas with PGNiG.
Representatives of PGNiG, KGHM, PGE and TAURON Polska Energia have confirmed their intention to cooperate in shale gas exploration. The meetings were also attended by representatives of ENEA.

Given that ENEA has joined the group of companies which in late January signed letters of intent with PGNiG concerning cooperation in shale gas exploration and change of cooperation formula, the deadline for concluding the talks has been extended until the end of June. The companies have agreed that joint operations in the Wejherowo licence area will be more effective.

The Wejherowo licence is one of the 15 shale gas exploration licences currently held by PGNiG. According to experts, it is one of the most prospective ones. PGNiG commenced work in the Wejherowo licence area in 2010. Fracturing operations were performed in September 2011 at the Lubocino-1 well, confirming the presence of shale gas accumulations. Analyses of the gas, coming from Silurian and Ordovician shales, have confirmed its very good energy characteristics, absence of hydrogen sulphide and low nitrogen content. Further analyses have identified the presence of heavy hydrocarbons. At present, work is under way to prepare for horizontal drilling.

The joint effort of all partners will make it possible to intensify the exploration for shale gas.
