PGNiG and PKN ORLEN continue to explore for oil in the Wielkopolska region
Exploratory drilling is about to begin near the town of Sieraków within the bounds of the geological Niecka Szczecińska basin. The exploration is being conducted with a view to gathering geological data to confirm whether oil accumulations are present in the area. The project is being implemented jointly by PGNiG and PKN ORLEN.

The work in Sieraków has been permitted under the Wronki licence issued by the Ministry of the Environment. The Sieraków play neighbours the largest oil and gas discoveries in Poland - the Lubiatów-Międzychód-Grotów oil field.

The Sieraków-3 vertical well is planned to be drilled to a depth of 3,320 metres with the use of a Bentec Euro Rig 450T owned by Exalo Drilling S.A., a PGNiG Group subsidiary.

If the drilling confirms the presence of hydrocarbon accumulations in commercial quantities, the project will move to the next stage, the drafting of a field development plan that will allow for connection of the wells to the existing LMG (Lubiatów-Międzychód-Grotów) production facilities. The following stage will be to drill more production wells and build surface infrastructure.

PGNiG holds a 51% interest in the Sieraków project, with the other 49% held by ORLEN Upstream. These interests define the partners' respective shares in costs and future profits derived from the extracted oil and gas.
