Norwegian natural gas for Germany: Uniper and Equinor secure long-term gas supply contract
  - Long-term partnership: Uniper and Equinor have concluded a 15-year agreement for the supply of natural gas to Germany, starting in 2027
  - Security of supply: The partnership supports the reliable supply of more than 30 TWh per year of natural gas to Germany, while contributing to the further diversification of Uniper’s portfolio.
  - Norwegian gas & lower-emissions footprint: Uniper and Equinor aim to build on their cooperation to further develop the market for natural gas with a lower emissions footprint.

Uniper and Equinor have signed a 15-year agreement for the supply of natural gas to Germany. Under the agreement, Equinor will supply Uniper with more than 30 TWh of natural gas per year from 2027 to 2041. The agreement strengthens the long-term supply of the German market with natural gas and contributes to the further diversification of Uniper’s portfolio, helping to further secure reliable gas supplies for Uniper’s customers in Germany.

Michael Lewis, CEO Uniper:
"This long-term agreement is a strong signal for the future of Europe’s energy system. Reliable long-term partnerships remain essential for secure and competitive energy markets, and this agreement strengthens Germany’s gas supply for years to come. At the same time, we see significant potential to work together with Equinor on advancing proven lower-emissions gas solutions for customers in Germany. Norway is a cornerstone of Europe’s energy security, and Equinor is a trusted partner with deep expertise and a strong commitment to the European market."

Anders Opedal, CEO Equinor:
"We are pleased to extend our long-standing partnership with Uniper. This agreement demonstrates the strong demand for reliable, long-term gas supplies from the Norwegian continental shelf, which delivers energy and industrial feedstock with a lower carbon footprint than alternative gas supply. It further strengthens Equinor’s role as a trusted long-term energy partner to Europe.”

Equinor is one of Europe’s key natural gas suppliers. As the largely state-owned Norwegian incumbent, it provides a direct link between the European energy market and Norway’s significant natural gas resources. For Uniper, the agreement represents another important building block in securing reliable sources of supply for the German market and further strengthening the long-term supply security of its customers in Germany.

Long-term and reliable supply relationships with established European producers are particularly important against the backdrop of continued volatility in global energy markets. They are an important pillar of Germany’s energy security and contribute to a well-functioning and competitive European gas market. At the same time, Uniper and Equinor intend to build on their cooperation to further develop the market for natural gas with a lower-emissions footprint. Norwegian natural gas has a comparatively low carbon footprint, supported in part by Norway’s direct connection to the European market through pipeline infrastructure. With the long-term supply agreement, Uniper and Equinor underline their shared role in supporting a reliable supply of natural gas to Europe while creating a basis for further cooperation on lower-emissions natural gas.
