NIGC Set for Cooperation with Gazprom
Managing director of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) said it is prepared for cooperating with the Russian energy firm Gazprom relying on their mutual responsibilities and political determination between Tehran and Moscow.

“Neighborhood of Iran and Russia considering their hold on strategic gas resources as well as determination of the two countries’ political leadership are significant reasons which can create appropriate opportunities in their bilateral relations,” Hamidreza Araqi told following a meeting with Gazprom’s deputy chairman of the Management Committee, Alexander Medvedev here on Wednesday.

According to the report of the public relations of the NIGC, officials from National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) and Russian firm Gazprom held the first joint coordination committee for bilateral cooperation.

The committee reviewed the coordination areas under five working group in the field of investment, commercial activity, natural gas storage, equipment supplies and EPC projects for trunk gas pipelines.

Araqi expressed hope that the formation of the working group paves the way for closer cooperation between the two countries.
“It is evident that the world needs gas and that Iran and Russia can use such a rich capacity to pursue their joint objectives in this field,” Araqi said.

He stated that NIGC has considerable experience, for example, in construction of gas pipelines, storage facilities, and gas refineries and can cooperate with Gazprom in these areas.

The 25-member visiting delegation is headed by Alexander Medvedev, deputy chairman of the Management Committee of Russian energy company.
