New Gas Field Discovered in Southern Iran
The National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) announced the discovery of a new gas field south of Fars Province, southern Iran.

Entitled as Eram, the gas field is estimated to hold 19 trillion cubic feet (540 bcm) of natural gas in its reserve of which 13 tcf is recoverable.

The field is located 200 kilometers to the south of Shiraz, 60 km to the north of Assaluyeh and 25 km to the east of Khonj County, and stretches some 50 kilometers with an average width of 5 km.

The exploration department of NIOC said the field was discovered after years of serious endeavors by Iranian experts in Eram District in Fars Province.

Experimental results show that the field should contain quality gas.

NIOC, in accordance with Article 44 of the Constitution, gives authority to different sectors, while supervising oil industry activities. The company has taken major steps toward establishing business enterprises, funded financial resources for development, helped to update technologies for exploration, drilling and production with reliance on the knowledge of Iranian experts.

NIOC consists of seventeen production companies, eight technical service companies, seven managements, six divisions (administrative units) and five organizational units.
