Naftogaz Group is set to receive funding from Norway to purchase natural gas, with the financing channeled through the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
“This assistance is critically important for the stability of Ukraine’s energy system. I am grateful to Norway and the EBRD for their continued support and commitment to helping our country,” said Roman Chumak, CEO of Naftogaz Group .
The grant forms part of a broader aid package focused on bolstering Ukraine’s energy security. Norway is committingroughly EUR 380 million to support gas procurement, powergrid restoration, emergency generators, and nuclear safety initiatives.
Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store underscored the urgency of energy said:
“In addition to weapons and ammunition, what Ukraine needs most urgently is energy support. In Kyiv, people often have no access to electricity for many hours a day, which has a significant impact on their daily lives. Energy support, including funding for the purchase of gas, is therefore an important component of Norway's assistance,” he said.
Since the start of 2024, Russia has launched 16 large-scale attacks on Ukraine’s gas infrastructure, firing more than 100 missiles at Naftogaz Group facilities and causing significant damage.
