Myanmar-China Crude Pipeline officially put into operation
On April 10, in the presence of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Myanmar's President Htin Kyaw, CNPC Chairman Wang Yilin and Myanmar Ambassador to China Thit Linn Ohn signed the Myanmar-China Crude Pipeline transmission agreement. Later on the same day, the Myanmar-China Crude Pipeline project was officially put into operation on the Maday Island in Myanmar as an oil tanker started offloading 140,000 tons of crude oil from Azerbaijan at the Bay of Bengal.

Construction of the pipeline began in June 2010. Starting from Maday Island on the western coast of Myanmar and entering China at Ruili in Yunnan Province, the pipeline runs 771km in Myanmar and 1,600km in China, with designed transmission capacity of 22 million tons per year. The pipeline is jointly invested and constructed by CNPC and Myanmar Oil and Gas Enterprise (MOGE), with each holding a 50.95% and 49.1% stake.

During project construction, priority was given to environmental protection and land restoration, and great efforts were made in promoting the local economic development. CNPC joined hands with its partners to build schools, hospitals, roads, bridges, water and power supply works, and telecommunication facilities for the local communities, and made donations in the relief work of natural disasters such as floods, droughts, hails and earthquakes. Additionally, the project paid great attention to local hiring, with the number of Myanmar employees exceeding 70%.
