On 2 June 2025, the National Fire Brigade leadership, headed by the Chief of the Brigade, Eros Mannino, visited the BW Singapore FSRU, Snam regasification vessel active since last May in the waters off Ravenna.
Among other things, the delegation witnessed the safe discharging of the first commercial LNG ship coming from the Plaquemines liquefaction terminal in the US.
Similarly to Italis LNG already in operation in Piombino, BW Singapore FSRU, purchased by Snam in July 2022 in response to the emergency caused by the Russia – Ukraine crisis, has an annual regasification capacity of 5 billion cubic meters, thus guaranteeing further diversification of the country's energy supplies.
Liquefied natural gas (LNG) continues to make a fundamental contribution to the security of the Italian energy system, with many different countries providing supplies: in 2024, 150 cargoes arrived mainly from Qatar (36%), the United States (34%), Algeria (20%), and also from Egypt, Spain, Congo, Angola, Equatorial Guinea, as well as other nations.
In 2025, the total number of LNG cargoes arriving in Italy since January amounts to 95, mainly from the United States, Qatar and Algeria, as well as other African countries and Spain. Current LNG supplies account for about 30% of the country's total gas supplies.
