JGC Wins Major EPC Contract for New Refinery Project (NRP)
JGC Corporation and its partner GS Engineering & Construction (GS), Korea, announced today that they received Award Notification by Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) to provide engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning services for the NRP Project, Package 1 - in Al-Zour, Kuwait.

Package 1 of the Project calls for the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of the core units including Crude Distillation Unit (615,000 BPSD) and Atmospheric Residue Desulphurization Unit (330,000 BPSD) of the New Refinery. JGC will install Atmospheric Residue Desulphurization Unit, Heavy Oil Cooling Unit, Saturated Gas Unit and Flair Stack. The Project’s other four (4) Packages cover process, offsite & utility, tank and marine facilities.

Upon completion, the New Refinery will produce Low Sulfur Fuel Oil for power generation to cope with the high demand for electricity in Kuwait. As this contract is not the Lump Sum base, the firm contract value is not agreed at the timing of the award. The contract value of the group is provisionally estimated US$4 billion and the contract value of JGC is approximately US$2 billion plus.

The award to JGC and GS reflects the high regard of the client for the alignment’s cost competitiveness and extensive grass-roots refinery construction experience, including the Mina Al-Ahmadi Refinery in Kuwait constructed by JGC in 1980’s, as well as outstanding technical capabilities.

JGC Corporation is an international engineering and construction company based in Yokohama, Japan, having multiple operating centers and executing large scale projects world-wide. JGC is currently executing projects in Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Singapore and other countries. Established in 1928, JGC has a strong background in project execution of both hydrocarbon and non-hydrocarbon related projects with annual sales turnover of approximately $5 billion.
