Iranian President Hassan Rouhani voiced Iran’s readiness to complete the gas pipeline project that is intended to deliver Iran’s gas to neighboring Pakistan.
“Iran is ready to complete the gas pipeline expressing hope that the obligations of both sides be fulfilled, which will be in the interest of both countries,” Rouhani said in a meeting with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York on Tuesday evening, Iran’s SHANA news agency reported.
“We are ready to supply energy to Pakistan, and also welcome investors in this sphere,” Rouhani added.
Iran has almost completed the construction of its section of the pipeline near the Pakistani border.
Ambassador of Iran to Pakistan also says that Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline can play a vital role in fulfilling the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC’s) energy requirements.
Mehdi Honardoost, speaking at the Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) in Islamabad, said Iran, having one of the largest gas reserves in the world, could become an indispensable asset for the CPEC.
