Iran and Iraq signed a contract today, based on which 25 million cubic meters of Iranian gas will be transferred to Iraq’s city of Basra per day, managing director of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC), Hamidreza Araqi said.
According to the report of the public relations of the NIGC, the contract signed between National Iranian Gas Company and the Ministry of Electricity of Iraq in the presence of Iranian Petroleum Minister.
“Based on the contract, Iran's gas exports to Basra will start with a volume of 7 million cubic meters per day (MMcm/d) and will gradually reach 20 to 35 MMcm/d,” he added.
Araqi noted that the gas export will be raised to 35 MMcm/d to Basra mainly for power plants during 5 hot months of the year.
