Iran’s Minister of Petroleum Bijan Namdar Zangeneh said following finalization of the talks between Iran and Belgium, a floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) vessel will be stationed at Iran’s oil terminal of Kharg Island in the Persian Gulf.
“If the two sides show flexibility and technical and economic negotiations bear results, the Belgian side will bring FLNG facilities to the Kharg region in not a long period and Iran will begin producing LNG for the first time via these facilities,” he said following a meeting with the visiting Belgian Secretary of State for Foreign Trade Pieter De Crem, Iran’s SHANA news agency reported.
“Prior to sanctions, Belgian firms were active in marine engineering services and environmental projects in Iran. Bilateral trade stood at $1 billion which the Belgians insist to return to that level,” he said.
According to the Iranian minister, both sides also discussed construction of pipes used in the oil industry, environmental cooperation, and underground natural gas storage.
Although Belgium has not been a direct customer of Iran’s crude oil, Zangeneh said, Belgians were interested in investment in Iran’s petrochemical sector.
