Investment support LNG Terminal in Pori
Pori LNG terminal receives positive investment support decision from Finnish Ministry of Employment and the Economy.

The Finnish Ministry of Employment and the Economy (MEE) has given a posit ive investment support decision on the Pori l iquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal . Skangass will make its own investment decision regarding the Pori terminal in the next few weeks.

”We’re very happy and pleased with the ministry's decision. Once completed, the Pori LNG terminal will serve the entire western coast of Finland from Hanko to Kokkola and therefore diversify the Finnish gas market. The Tahkoluoto Port is accessible around the year and already has the infrastructure in place, active vessel traffic and key customers in the local area. The City and Port of Pori have also provided our project with excellent support,” says Skangass Sales and Marketing Director Tommy Mattila.

”We’d like to thank the Ministry of Employment and the Economy for the positive investment support decision. Skangass will make its own investment decision regarding the Pori terminal in the next few weeks,” says chair of the Skangass Board of Directors and Gasum CEO Johanna Lamminen.

Skangass selected Tahkoluoto, Pori, as the location of its first LNG import terminal in March. It is envisaged that the terminal will be completed in autumn 2016. The construction project is estimated to provide 250 full-time equivalents of employment. Once operational, the terminal will employ around 10 people directly and around 50 other people indirectly.

The Ministry of Employment and the Economy has also made a positive investment support decision concerning the LNG terminal project planned for Röyttä, Tornio. The project is led by Manga LNG Oy, a company founded by Outokumpu, SSAB, Gasum Corporation and EPV Energy.

LNG is an environmentally friendly fuel that can be used to replace oil-based fuels in industry, energy production and maritime transport and, consequently, achieve major reductions in particulate, sulfur and carbon dioxide emissions from these activities.
