Shell can confirm an alarm was sounded at the company’s Geelong Refinery at 5am this morning following an issue with an operating unit.
Authorities were notified and emergency services immediately attended site.
No one was injured in the incident and the situation was quickly brought under control – with the all clear sounded around 9:30am.
The refinery continues to manufacture fuels, and Shell does not expect any market impact.
In line with standard procedure the company will conduct an investigation into the cause of the incident.
