GE Technology to Power Dominion’s Cove Point LNG Liquefaction Project in Maryland
GE Oil & Gas has received contracts to supply gas compression trains for Dominion’s Cove Point Liquefaction Project in Lusby, Md. Adding liquefaction capabilities will transform the existing Cove Point liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal into the first LNG terminal capable of exporting LNG on the U.S. East Coast.

GE will supply two Frame 7EA DLN1 (Dry Low NOx) gas turbine packages to drive the GE refrigeration compressors. This single-train design will have the capacity to produce approximately 5.25 million metric tons per annum of LNG.

“GE Oil & Gas’ gas turbine, compressor and offshore production technologies help drive many of the world’s leading LNG projects,” said Rafael Santana, president and CEO—turbomachinery for GE Oil & Gas. “This latest project underscores just how important LNG technology is to the natural gas industry as this sector undergoes dramatic new changes driven by an abundance of natural gas.”

GE has a proven track record as an innovative provider of mission-critical equipment for the LNG sector. Through continuous and reliable innovation, GE enables its customers to meet industry challenges from the largest LNG train compressors to MicroLNG plants for remote locations.

The technology being supplied to Dominion consists of GE’s MS7001 EA industrial gas turbines, which feature DLN technology and provide 86-megawatt ISO shaft power while reducing emissions. GE’s Frame 7 DLN accepts a wide range of fuel and has more than 500 units in the DLN fleet.

GE technology leadership in the LNG space is strengthened by its outage excellence, which is the capability to provide highly specialized maintenance services for LNG plants that increase uptime while optimizing operational efficiency.

A recent study commissioned by the U.S. Department of Energy and conducted by NERA Consulting concluded that the U.S. will be a net economic beneficiary from allowing LNG exports with job creation cited as a significant benefit.

GE announced its role in the Dominion Cove Point Liquefaction Project today at the 17th International Conference & Exhibition on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG-17) being held in Houston, April 16-18, 2013.
