GE Power Conversion Presents Advanced Electrification Solutions for Gas Liquefaction at LNG 17
GE’s Power Conversion business will demonstrate its complete electrical portfolio for high requirement applications at LNG 17, the 17th Annual Conference and Exhibition on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), running from April 16 – 19 in Houston, Texas, booth 955 in Hall C.

GE Power Conversion can provide the complete electrification solution for the LNG plant process. With extensive expertise in electrification and knowledge of LNG processes, its engineers have developed high-reliability systems and strong capability in high-power systems to meet the requirements of LNG operators. Applying a system approach from the grid connection to the compressor flow, the company offers an extended electrical package from power generation to motors including drives, generators, switchgear, transformers, UPS, MCC, harmonic filters and e-house.

Power Conversion offers solutions for gas turbine-driven LNG plants as well as motor-driven LNG plants. For gas turbine-driven LNG plants, the converter-fed motors can be used as starters and as helpers of the electrical applications. The motor-driven solution uses electrical motors (synchronous or induction) powered by high-power drives based on thyristor technology (for LCI) or IGBT technology (for VSI) to drive the main refrigerant compressors.

Interest in evaluating electric motor-driven solutions is driven by the potential for higher plant availability and lower driver life-cycle costs, with lower emissions. GE has made significant investment in proving and demonstrating this technology. The company’s test bench facility located in Italy is equipped with a 61-megawatt synchronous motor and variable speed drive system designed to test centrifugal gas compressor units at full load and under extreme speed, torque and dynamic response conditions to guarantee high reliability of the overall system.

GE’s complete integrated solution combining high-performance electrical technology and advanced technical compression allows the full shaft line through rotordynamics analysis, ensuring a very high level of performance for this critical application and paving the way for safe, reliable and performing solutions for LNG.
