GE Energy to Supply 6FA Gas Turbine For Oil Refinery in Sicily
BELFORT, FRANCE — GE Energy will supply a Frame 6FA gas turbine-generator to ERG Raffinerie Mediterranee SRL, ERG Group, for installation in a power plant at ERG’s oil refinery in Priolo Gargallo, near Siracusa, Sicily.

The new GE unit, equipped with a Dry Low NOx combustion system, will use natural gas as its primary fuel and will join two other turbines already operating at the site, to boost the maximum power output available to 99 megawatts. The power will be generated for internal consumption at the refinery, with the surplus transmitted to the grid.

In addition to the equipment, GE will supply technical advisory services, performance testing of the new gas turbine, training, and a comprehensive mechanical condition monitoring system from GE’s Bently Nevada product line.

The Frame 6FA gas turbine will be manufactured at GE Energy’s facilities in Belfort, France and will be shipped to the project site in late October, 2004. Commercial operation is scheduled for the latter part of 2005.

The Frame 6FA is the mid-sized member of GE’s F-technology fleet of gas turbines, which has reached more than nine million hours of commercial operation in power plants worldwide. Ideally suited for heat recovery and small combined-cycle applications, the Frame 6FA has proven to be a popular machine in Europe, where 32 of the units have been installed or committed for future projects.
