Gazprom and Gasunie mention need for creating additional gas supply routes to Europe
The Gazprom headquarters hosted a working meeting between Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Company's Management Committee and Han Fennema, CEO and Chairman of the Executive Board of Gasunie.

The parties appreciated the partnership between the two companies, particularly, within the Nord Stream project. It was pointed out that the gas pipeline successfully performed an important function of diversifying the channels of energy supply to Europe. At present, there is an obvious need for creating additional alternative routes for supplying gas to European consumers.

Alexey Miller and Han Fennema discussed the prospects for further cooperation in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) sector. Among other things, they noted the need for the infrastructure development within the segment of using small scale LNG as a fuel for land and marine transport.

About Gasunie and Gazprom

Gasunie is a European gas infrastructure company, whose network ranks among the largest high pressure gas pipeline grids in Europe with the total annual gas throughput of approximately 125 billion cubic meters. Gasunie's network consists of over 15,000 kilometers of pipeline in the Netherlands and northern Germany and approximately 1,300 gas receiving stations. The company also offers natural gas transportation services, as well as natural gas and LNG storage services.

In 2008 Gasunie was registered as a Nord Stream AG shareholder (with a 9 per cent stake).

In 2013 Gazprom and Gasunie signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Strategic Cooperation, providing for enhancing cooperation between the companies in such areas as gas infrastructure development, Nord Stream expansion, LNG, energy efficiency, innovative technologies, environmental protection, educational projects, information and cultural exchange.

Nord Stream is an export gas pipeline running across the Baltic Sea from Russia to Germany, with the annual capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas. A 1,224-kilometer gas pipeline consists of two strings. Nord Stream AG, a joint project company (Gazprom holding a 51 per cent stake, Wintershall Holding and E.ON Global Commodities – 15.5 per cent each, Gasunie and GDF Suez – 9 per cent each) is the project operator.
