Galp reaches all Mozambican provinces and invests in two new logistical bases
Reinforcement of the service station network, having doubled the number of service stations in the country in only four years. Galp is investing in two new logistical bases in Matola and Beira. Gas projects in the Rovuma basin position Mozambique as one of Galp's growth drivers for the next decade. Galp has been present in Mozambique for more than 60 years and is one of the largest foreign investors in the country.

With its arrival in Lichinga, Galp has recently expanded its service station network to all the provinces of the country, in line with an investment plan underway. Between 2016 and 2020 the company will double its presence in Mozambique, and is planning to have more than 70 service stations at the end of 2020. Before the end of 2018, the energy company will have grown to 60 service stations - it currently has 57 stations - expanding its presence in the cities of Matola, Ressano Garcia and Nampula Pemba, among others.

The expansion plan also involves the construction, through a partnership, of two new logistical bases for reception, storage and dispatch of liquid fuel and LPG in the cities of Matola and Beira. This will bring the total number of logistical bases that the company has in the country to four.

In total, about 150 million dollars will be invested in Galp's logistical and retail network expansion in Mozambique. The company's investment will contribute towards the creation of new direct jobs, both in the construction and operation phase. At the end of 2020, the universe of people working in the retail area of the company will reach a total of more than 2,600 employees.

Having participated in FACIM 2018, Galp was distinguished by APIEX and by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Mozambique in recognition of the importance of the investments it has underway in the country.

Galp's expansion plan implies a reinforcement of the company's investment plans in Mozambique, a market in which the company has been operating for more than 60 years.

Galp has also been present in Mozambique in the Exploration and Production segment since 2007. The oil company is one of the main investors in the country and is a member of a consortium for the exploration of natural gas in Cabo Delgado in the northern region of Mozambique, having recently submitted its Development Plan for the first phase of the project to the Government.

This investment of Galp in Mozambique is undertaken in partnership with Mozambique Rovuma Venture S.p.A. – a joint venture between ExxonMobil, Eni and CNPC –, KOGAS and Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH). ExxonMobil will head the construction and operation of the onshore trains and related premises, while ENI will be the operator of the upstream.

The presentation to the Government of the Development Plan for the first phase of the Rovuma LNG project reflects the consortium's commitment to continue to develop the high quality resources discovered in Area 4, estimated to be about 85 tcf of gas in place. It should be mentioned that the investment decision with reference to the Coral South FLNG project was taken in June 2017, with the first production of GNL forecast for 2022.

The Rovuma LNG project will play a major role in Galp's growth strategy and will be determinant in the increase of the weight of gas in the company's portfolio. Furthermore, it will be one of the main foreign direct investments in the country, creating thousands of direct and indirect jobs, becoming therefore not only a growth driver but also, and more importantly, a factor for the development of the country.

Natural gas is one of Galp's major strategic investments for the next two decades and will represent a significant contribution in the energy transition and decarbonisation of the global economy.

The economic activities of Galp in Mozambique have always been accompanied by the development of social cohesion policies with a significant impact on Mozambican society.
