Fugro wins contract with Galsi to define gas pipeline route from Algeria to Italy
Fugro has been awarded a contract to perform a detailed marine survey in the Mediterranean Sea to select the best route for the GALSI gas pipeline from Algeria to Southern Sardinia and then from Northern Sardinia to the mainland of Italy. The contract value is approximately EUR 18 million. The project will start immediately and is expected to last till April 2008 for the fulfilment of the marine survey and to conclude by the end of July 2008 with the release of the Final Report.

Fugro will manage the whole detailed marine survey project, which will involve geophysical and hydrographical survey with its vessel ‘Geo Prospector’ and the use of an AUV (Autonomous Underwater Vehicle), as well as offshore seabed geotechnical investigations by two vessels, including Fugro’s vessel ‘Bucentaur’. The project also involves near shore survey for the four landfalls. The length of the route is 529 kilometres of pipeline in water depths down to 2,850 metres.

Client is Galsi S.p.A., a joint venture consisting of the companies Sonatrach, Edison, Enel, Wintershall, Hera and the Sardinian company Sfirs.

Due to the broad scope of the project nine of Fugro’s specialised operating companies will be involved.
