First Venezuelan oil refinery on Chinese soil
Petróleos de Venezuela SA (PDVSA) and PetroChina signed the Project for Development and Establishment of the joint venture to take care of realizing the future development of Nanhai refinery.

This signature confirms the agreement of energy cooperation between PDVSA and China National Petroleum Corporation signed in March 2007, in which according both state oil companies will work together through joint ventures to produce and upgrade 800,000 barrels a day of heavy and extra heavy crude, which would be drawn in Venezuela and processed at three refineries to be built in China.

With the realization of this commitment it begins the process of developing this first refinery, at Jie Yang City, Guangdong Province, which will be operational in early 2015, with a capacity to process 400 thousand barrels of oil from the Orinoco Oil Belt.

The agreement will regulate the activities to be carried until the completion of basic engineering and to the time of formation of the joint venture, which will have the responsibility to build the refinery, with 40% participation by PDVSA.

The signing ceremony was attended by the vice presidents of both companies: Shen Diancheng by Petrochina and Asdrubal Chavez, vice president of Refining, Marketing and Supply of PDVSA, as well as Venezuela's ambassador in China, Rocío Maneiro, PDVSA's general manager in China Francisco Giménez, and Ygor Martínez, leader of the project.

Also the Project Steering Committee was installed, composed of an equal number of seven representatives from Petrochina and seven representatives from PDVSA, following the lines established in the framework agreement.
