EUROPIPE Delivers High-quality Pipes for Nord Stream 2
EUROPIPE GmbH is again the largest supplier of pipes for the Nord Stream 2
Pipeline, having secured the production of 90,000 out of a total of 200,000 high-quality large-diameter pipes. This production volume will be enough to ensure a solid workload for at least the next 20 months in the pipe mill in Mülheim. EUROPIPE will supply 1,134 km of pipes with an overall weight of 890,000 tonnes, or around 46 percent of the pipes required for the pipeline.

Salzgitter Mannesmann and Dillinger Hüttenwerke began with the mass production of steel plates at the end of August 2016. These are needed for the production of the pipes with a constant internal diameter of 1,150 mm. Before delivery, each pipe receives an internal coating to minimise friction, as well as an external coating consisting of three layers of polyethylene to prevent corrosion. The pipes meet the highest international quality standards and are certified by TÜV Nord.

Rail pipe deliveries from Mülheim to the logistics hub in Mukran, on the German island of Rügen, started at the end of October 2016. Over the coming weeks, 148 pipes will be delivered per day, transported by a train comprising of 37 wagons. Once they reach Mukran, the pipes will undergo concrete weight coating and be transported to the storage facility.

The Nord Stream 2 project is proceeding as planned. The contracts for pipe deliveries were awarded in April 2016, while those for pipe coating and logistics were signed in September. The start of concrete coating of the pipes is planned in spring 2017.

About Nord Stream 2

Nord Stream 2 will be a twin pipeline system that can transport natural gas from the world's largest reserves in Northern Russia to supply homes and businesses across Europe.

Funded by leading international energy companies, the project builds on the success and experience of Nord Stream, which opened twin pipelines through the Baltic Sea in 2011 and 2012. The new pipelines will increase capacity along the Baltic Sea route from Russia to Germany, helping to safeguard Europe's long-term energy security.

About EUROPIPE

EUROPIPE's expertise in large-diameter pipe manufacturing is in the production of welded steel pipes for extreme applications. These pipes withstand the extreme heat of the desert, the lowest temperatures in arctic environments or the extreme pressure of the deep sea.
