Eni has made a new discovery in Block 14 offshore Angola where it holds a 20%-stake. The Malange-1 well reached depths of 4,743 meters at a water depth of 266 meters and produced approximately 7,700 boe/d (barrels of oil equivalent per day) of high quality oil during the test-phase.
Block 14 is operated by Cabinda Gulf Oil Company Limited (CABGOC, 31%). Other partners in the project are Sonangol (20%), Total (20%) and Galp Exploração Produção (9%). This discovery, the first made in the Pinda formation within Block 14, will be followed by geological studies enabling reserves and the potential of the field to be fully evaluated.
This discovery expands Eni’s activities in Angola, where the company also became operator of the high-potential Block 15/06 and recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Angola’s state-company Sonangol to acquire a 13.6% stake in the Angola LNG Limited consortium.
Eni’s has been present in Angola since 1980 and currently has equity production of approximately 135,000 boe/d in the region.
