Egina FPSO Arrived in Lagos
Egina FPSO, world's largest FPSO being built by Samsung Heavy Industries Co., Ltd.("SHI") arrived in Lagos on January 24th after 84 days of travel from SHI's Geoje Shipyard on October 31th 2017.

SHI will deliver the unit in the second half of 2018 after completion of Nigerian local content proportion, FPSO topside module integration and hull appurtenance, as well as commissioning.

SHI won the turnkey order for engineering, procurement, and construction, installation, and commissioning for Egina FPSO back in 2013, worth around 3.0 billion USD which recorded as the largest contract.

The gigantic FPSO, to be installed in the Egina offshore field 200km from Nigerian shore, is 330m in length, 61m in breadth, and 34m in depth with storage capacity of 2.3 million barrels of oil and topsides weighing 60,000 tons.

SHI established the production facilities in Lagos, Nigeria with a local company to meet the Nigerian local contents. The facilities, with area of 120,000㎡, have integration and painting sites and 500m long quay.

SHI have been constructing topside modules in Lagos since June 2015. The modules are hailed by Nigerian government and the owner with safety and quality standards consistent with the Geoje shipyard, fulfilling the local contents successfully. This would lead to competitive edge in future large offshore projects in Nigeria and West Africa.

The Samsung representative said "SHI have taken thorough preparations to meet the Nigerian local contents, leading to planned control in both construction and cost management." He explained "With keen interaction with the owner for total safety and quality management, the remaining work for the Egina FPSO would be completed successfully."
