Duqm Refinery invites 7 applicants to tender for the EPC contracts to design and build its new refinery
A total of 7 prequalified applicants have been invited to submit tenders for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts of its Duqm Refinery project. The refinery once completed will have the capacity to process 230,000 barrels of crude oil per day.

The applicants comprise a combination of joint ventures, alliances, and sole entities capturing a total of 15 international companies. The selection process followed a structured and robust prequalification evaluation of the capabilities of all the companies who applied for inclusion on the tender list.

It is envisaged that the tender shall comprise 2 EPC contracts. The larger contract shall consist of all the equipment and structures required to process the crude oil. The second contract shall comprise the facilities, utilities, tankage and buildings that are required to support that refinery process.

“The release of the Invitation to Tender (ITT) documentation to these tenderers is another key milestone in the refinery project lifecycle and a significant achievement for the project team. The tender process has been well established and shall remain the focus of much of the team for the next year. Our aim is to achieve success on an international level by insisting on high standards of design, construction and operation and by adding value to an area that is considered to be the new economic hub of Oman and that shall become a major player in the region” – Jacobus Nieuwenhuijze – Duqm Refinery Project Director.

Duqm Refinery will be one of the growth engines for the special economic zone. It will provide development opportunities for new projects that will directly and indirectly interface with the refinery. These projects will look to benefit from the refinery’s products as well as provide different logistic services to the refinery.
