CLH brings into service its new storage facility in Burgos
Compañía Logística de Hidrocarburos has started operating from its new storage and oil product distribution facility that the company has built in Burgos, meaning it can begin terminating its activity at the former facility which is located in the Hospital del Rey district.

The building of this new facility involved a total investment of 29 million euros and will bring about improvements in the system for oil product storage and distribution in the city, as it duplicates the storage capacity of the present facilities.

This new facility, which is the most modern of all the plants operated by the company and is among those with the largest capacity in the Autonomous Region of Castile and León, is located on the road leading to Ecoparque, the solid waste reception facility, in an area called El Cucarazal close to the ring road. It stands on a 150,000 square metre piece of land and has 14 storage tanks with a total capacity of 107,000 cubic metres.

The new storage facility in Burgos will replace the facility CLH has at present in the vicinity of Hospital del Rey, which has been operating in the city since 1965. This facility will be shut down and dismantled so that the land can be recovered and put to other town planning uses.

Compañía Logística de Hidrocarburos CLH is the leading company in the Spanish market for the transportation and storage of oil products, with a pipeline network over 4,000 kilometres long and 38 storage facilities that have a total capacity of 7.5 million cubic metres, as well as 28 airport facilities.

The CLH pipeline network in Castile and León is over 490 kilometres long and connects the four storage facilities the company has in this autonomous region in León, Burgos, Santoavenia de Pisuerga and Salamanca, with the rest of the pipeline network. This network also has two pipeline and pumping stations.

Through its subsidiary CLH Aviación, CLH is also present at Salamanca airport and from there aviation fuel is supplied to the airlines operating at this terminal.

During 2010, the company supplied over 3.1 million cubic metres of fuel to the different oil operators through its facilities in the Autonomous Region of Castile and León in order to meet the demand from end users in this autonomous region.

The new facility, which is operational around the clock every day of the year, also has an automated tank truck loading area with 4 loading racks and 16 loading arms, where an average of 90 tank trucks per day and around 26,000 per year will be able to load and then distribute fuel to filling stations and other consumers in Burgos and its surrounding area.

Besides this, a 450-metre long, 14" diameter connection pipeline has been built and this links the facility with the Miranda - Burgos pipeline which runs through the area.

The new oil product storage and distribution centre in Burgos is fitted with sophisticated communications and control equipment that enables all the activities pertaining to its operation to be managed, such as control of tank storage, control of the pumping station, control of loading arms, etc.

The storage facility is also designed with the aim of minimizing any impact on the environment. This has been done by fitting different environmental protection systems, which include: a rainwater collection network that is separate from the hydrocarbon-polluted water network and a vapour recovery unit.

This storage centre also has one of the most modern safety systems and is equipped with various prevention systems, such as safety distances between the tanks and watertight separation bunding, as well as floating roofs in the tanks and overfill protection systems.
