China–Russia East-Route Natural Gas Pipeline in Operation
The launching ceremony of China–Russia East-Route Natural Gas Pipeline was held on December 2, 2019. Wang Yilin, Chairman of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, and Igor Krutikov, Director General of Gazprom Dobycha Noyabrsk, reported the preparations for the launch of the pipeline to the heads of state of the two countries via the video call. President Vladimir Putin and President Xi Jinping subsequently issued the instructions for providing or receiving natural gas, and thus China–Russia East-Route Natural Gas Pipeline was officially in operation.

The Pipeline includes the Power of Siberia gas pipeline in Russia, the cross-border section and the section in China. The gas is mainly supplied by the Kovyktinskoye Gas field in Irkutsk Oblast and the Chayandinskoye Gas field in Sakha Republic (Yakutia) in East Siberia, Russia.

As the long-distance natural gas pipeline with the largest caliber and the highest pressure currently in the country, the section of China–Russia East-Route Natural Gas Pipeline in China starts from Heihe City, Heilongjiang Province in the north to Shanghai in the south. As planned, it will be constructed and put into operation in three subsections. The north subsection (Heihe City - Changling County) was put into operation this time, and the middle subsection (Changling County - Yongqing County) and the south subsection (Yongqing County - Shanghai City) are scheduled to be launched in 2020 and 2023 respectively.

China will import 5 billion cubic meters of natural gas through this Pipeline in 2020, and the volume will gradually increase to 38 bcm/y for 30 years.
