Cepsa has obtained the ISO 50001 Energy Management Certification which attests to the proper implementation of a new system to manage energy resources at its refineries in San Roque and Tenerife. To obtain this they both underwent and successfully passed audits carried out by AENOR (Spanish Association for Standardisation and Certification). Our refinery at Palos de la Frontera already held the certification, meaning all our refineries now have the ISO 50001 certification.
In 2013 Cepsa approved the implementation of an Energy Management System compliant with ISO 50001, an international reglamentation which aims to promote energy efficiency within organisations; reduce gas emissions which cause climate change; guarantee compliance with energy legislation, and to improve the best use of available energy.
Cepsa is also standardising the existing energy management systems at its production centres to adapt them to international standards within ISO 50001.
Although energy efficiency has become more important in the last few years given its relevance in the viability and continuation of any business project, it is not a new concept to this Company which has reduced its CO2 emissions per unit equivalent to distilled crude oil by more than 40% at its main refineries, compared to 1990 emissions, in line with the trend led by the European Commission of energy efficiency.
Furthermore, Cepsa's values include Sustainability, which places Safety as a number one priority, hash maximum respect for the Environment and a Commitment to the well-being of the communities in which it operates and society in general, and Continuous Improvement, which aims for the excellence, efficiency, and reliability of operations.
