BP Starts Production from Giant Khazzan Gas Field in Oman
On September 22, 2017, a significant milestone was reached in one of the biggest tight gas projects in the Middle East when BP Khazzan, in the Sultanate of Oman, achieved first gas ahead of schedule.

Jacobs is BP’s EPCm contractor for the process and infrastructure work on this greenfield project. “We are very proud of this achievement. The whole team did an incredible job, through a one team effort, first gas was achieved ahead of schedule,” says David Zelinski, VP/GM Middle East.

This first phase of the onshore Khazzan field development plan involves drilling approximately 200 wells and constructing a two-train central processing facility (CPF). The project is expected to develop approximately seven trillion standard cubic feet of gas, deliver plateau production of one billion standard cubic feet of gas per day and 25,000 barrels per day of gas condensate, delivering long-term gas supply which will benefit Oman over many decades.

“The start of production from Khazzan, BP’s sixth and largest major project start-up so far this year, is an important milestone in our strategic partnership with Oman. With further development already planned, this giant field has the potential to produce gas for Oman for decades to come,” says Bob Dudley, BP group chief executive.

Jacobs was awarded the contract by BP in 2014. Under the terms of the contract Jacobs delivers engineering, procurement and construction management services for the gas gathering and water pipelines, wellhead production facilities and export pipelines as well as the detailed design and program management for the associated project infrastructure.

Jacobs delivered the EPCm project through its global integrated delivery model, applying expertise from employees in the Middle East, U.K., India and the US as well as local construction suppliers.
