bp signs Bab Gas Cap concession agreement
bp, together with ADNOC and partners, has signed a concession agreement to develop the Bab Gas Cap project in Abu Dhabi.

With this agreement, bp holds a 10% interest in the Bab Gas Cap concession, which is expected to produce up to 1.5 billion cubic feet per day (bcfd) of gas.

The Bab Gas Cap project, the largest gas cap development of its kind globally, is made up of three reservoirs in the Bab Field – one of Abu Dhabi’s largest onshore oil fields – and involves the co-production of gas and condensate. bp serves as asset lead for the Bab Oil Field; partners include ADNOC (60%), bp (10%), TotalEnergies (10%), CNPC (8%), INPEX (5%), ZhenHua Oil (4%) and GS Energy (3%).

The Bab Gas Cap project continues bp's track record in discovered resource access opportunities following Kirkuk in Iraq, Western Offshore fields in India, and Karabagh and Ashrafi-Dan Ulduzu-Aypara in Azerbaijan in 2025.

The Bab Cap Gas concession is expected to support UAE gas self-sufficiency and domestic feedstock production as well as ADNOC’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) export expansion plans.

bp and Abu Dhabi share a long-standing partnership spanning over 85 years. bp has been present in the Emirate since 1939, playing a pivotal role in the discovery of oil in 1958. Today, bp continues to build on this legacy, with a 10% interest in ADNOC Onshore, ADNOC LNG, the National Gas Shipping Company (NGSCO) and ADNOC’s Ruwais LNG development.
