Axens to provide technologies for the complete gas treatment chain at CSV Albright Sour Gas Processing Plant in Canada
Axens has been selected to supply the technologies for the Acid Gas Removal unit (HySWEET™) and the Sulphur Recovery unit (SmartSulf®) of the Albright Sour Gas Processing Plant to be constructed by CSV Midstream Solutions Corp. in Alberta, Canada:

   - For the Acid Gas Removal Unit, Axens licensed the HySWEET™ technology in order to process 152 MMSCFD of natural gas. HySWEET™ is a hybrid process for simultaneous removal of mercaptans and acid gases from natural gas, developed by TotalEnergies and commercialized by Axens.

   - For the Sulphur Recovery Unit, Axens licensed the SmartSulf® technology to handle the acid gas from the HySWEET™ in order to remove 370 TPD of Sulphur and achieve a Sulphur Recovery of 99.5+%.
Axens scope of work includes the supply of the process design packages, the supply of the specific equipment for the SmartSulf® unit as well as full services from plant personnel training to unit start-up.

Both units are now under process design phase and commissioning is expected for the end of 2024.

Dan Cote CSV’s Director, Projects
"CSV thoroughly evaluated a number of processing technology options prior to selecting the HySWEET and SmartSulf processes for our Albright Sour Gas Processing Plant. Throughout the evaluation, Axens and TotalEnergies were exceptionally cooperative and transparent, providing CSV with the confidence that the technologies were the right choice for our facility. Further to that, the benefit of working with one process licensor for both technologies provides significant synergies that allow for a streamlined project execution. The HySWEET technology’s ability to minimize hydrocarbon co-absorption will bring operational benefits to our sulphur recovery unit, while the SmartSulf unit will provide best in class sulphur recovery metrics with a smaller footprint and reduced CapEx and OpEx."

Jacques Rault Axens’ Executive VP Technology & Technical Support
"We are proud of having been selected by CSV Midstream Solutions for this project. The specific Axens’ process scheme combining a HySWEET unit followed by a SmartSulf unit provides a very competitive solution in terms of simplicity, CapEx and OpEx as well as emissions mitigation for the Albright Sour Gas Processing Plant. We are confident that this is the start of a great collaboration between CSV, TotalEnergies and Axens."

Marie-Noëlle Semeria TotalEnergies's Chief Technology Officer
"This commercial success crowns the development of the HySWEET technology. This solvent relies on a hybrid formulation developed by TotalEnergies R&D to simultaneously remove H2S, CO2 and organic sulfur species such as mercaptans while reducing the carbon footprint of the gas treatment. It illustrates TotalEnergies' expertise and commitment to finding technical solutions that reduce the environmental impact of gas as an energy of transition."

About CSV Midstream Solutions Corp.

CSV Midstream is a Calgary-based company offering a full suite of services for complete midstream solutions. With a vision to advance midstream, they provide innovative, sustainable strategies in the engineering, design, construction, operation and management of natural gas and NGL assets, including sweet and sour gas processing, liquids handling and fractionation, and gas gathering and transmission pipelines. CSV Midstream’s primary focus is the developing natural gas energy industry in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin.

About TotalEnergies

TotalEnergies is a global multi-energy company that produces and markets energies: oil and biofuels, natural gas and green gases, renewables and electricity. Our more than 100,000 employees are committed to energy that is ever more affordable, cleaner, more reliable and accessible to as many people as possible. About Axens

Axens group provides a complete range of solutions for the conversion of oil and biomass to cleaner fuels, the production and purification of major petrochemical intermediates, the chemical recycling of plastics, all natural gas treatment and conversion options along with water treatment and carbon capture. The offer includes technologies, equipment, furnaces, modular units, catalysts, adsorbents and related services. Axens is ideally positioned to cover the entire value chain, from feasibility study to unit start-up and follow-up throughout the entire unit life cycle. This unique position ensures the highest level of performance with a reduced environmental footprint. Axens global offer is based on highly trained human resources, modern production facilities and an extended global network for industrial, technical supports & commercial services. Axens is an IFP Group company.

About HySweet™

Developed by TotalEnergies and exclusively licensed by Axens, HySWEET™ is a hybrid process for simultaneous removal of mercaptans and acid gases (hydrogen sulfide (H2S), carbon dioxide (CO2), carbonyl sulfide (COS) from natural gas, while minimizing the hydrocarbon co-absorption potentially harmful for the downstream Sulphur Recovery unit. An additional benefit of this hybrid formulation is a lower regeneration duty reducing OpEx and carbon intensity. HySWEET™ features less than 1%vol hydrocarbon in acid gas as well as up to 15% savings on reboiling duty.

About SmartSulf®

SmartSulf® is a sub-dewpointing Sulphur Recovery process achieving up to 99.7% Sulphur recovery, with a simple 2-stage catalytic process configuration and without the need of a downstream Tail Gas Treatment Unit (TGTU). It therefore minimizes CapEx, energy requirements and CO2 emissions. It offers an easy operability with a fully automated process without need for more follow-up than conventional Claus unit.
