AMEC wins award for developing closer ties between South Korea and the UK
AMEC, the international engineering and project management company, has won the 2007 "Partnership between Korea and the UK" award from the British Chamber of Commerce in Korea.

AMEC won the award for its pivotal role in a 30-year Public Private Partnership (PPP) with Incheon City for the concession to finance, deliver, maintain and operate the £800 million Incheon Bridge for the South Korean Ministry of Communications and Transportation. By embarking on this development, AMEC became the first ever foreign investor to lead a PPP in the country.

The award was presented to AMEC representative director David Waters by the Rt Hon the Lord Mayor of the City of London, Alderman John Stuttard, who is leading a City business delegation to the Far East, at a ceremony in Seoul this week.

The judges commended AMEC for the pioneering nature of the PPP and the company's commitment to South Korea through its long-term involvement in the project.

"We are delighted to accept this award, which recognises our contribution both to the Incheon Bridge project, one of Korea's major infrastructure developments, and to the strengthening of the relationships between the organisations involved and our two countries," said Mr Waters.

Soo-Hong Kim, Chief Executive and President of AMEC's Korean business, added: "South Korea is a growing economy in which AMEC is proud to do business. Our involvement in the Incheon Bridge scheme has provided us with a platform from which we intend to develop our business here, particularly in the oil and gas and nuclear energy sectors."
