AMEC selected for Ulysses salt cavern gas storage study project
AMEC, the international engineering and project management company, has been selected by Providence Resources P.l.c., to undertake the conceptual study for their Ulysses salt cavern gas storage project offshore eastern Ireland.

The value of the contract has not been announced.

The study, awarded through Providence’s wholly owned subsidiary EIRGAS Limited (‘EIRGAS’), includes planning, capacity modelling, infrastructure integration and gas sourcing for the Kish Bank Basin, offshore Dublin, and is expected to be complete by early 2011.

The Ulysses project builds on AMEC’s experience on the Gateway gas storage project in the UK sector of the Irish Sea, for which AMEC is currently the lead engineering contractor and where it is also planned to store gas in undersea salt caverns.

“I am delighted that Providence has selected AMEC to undertake this study, bringing as it does our experience to the early stages of this project,” said John Pearson, Managing Director of AMEC’s Europe & West Africa business. “It demonstrates our considerable track record and expertise in developing gas storage projects. Providence is a new customer for AMEC, and I look forward to a long and successful relationship with them.”

John O’Sullivan, Technical Director of Providence, said: “We are delighted to be working with AMEC on the Ulysses project. We believe they will bring significant value to the project given their proven track record in the delivery of many successfully operating gas storage projects.”
