AMEC awarded a six-year engineering, procurement and construction contract by Nexen Petroleum UK Limited
AMEC, the international engineering and project management company, has been appointed by Nexen Petroleum UK Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of CNOOC Limited, to provide engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services for their North Sea offshore assets. Nexen is a significant contributor to energy development in the UK.

The reimbursable contract will run for six years, with the option of two extensions, each for a further two years. It is estimated that 150 jobs will be created onshore and offshore to support the contract’s operations.

The work will cover operational modifications and brownfield projects.

“I am delighted we’ve been awarded this contract by Nexen,” said Alan Johnstone, Managing Director for AMEC’s brownfield and asset management business, Europe. “This is a great opportunity to demonstrate our strength in delivering engineering, procurement and construction services, which complements our leading brownfield capability in project management, operations and maintenance. We look forward to building on our long-term relationship with Nexen and working with them to achieve safe and reliable operations in the North Sea.”

AMEC was awarded the contract for the hook-up and commissioning support of Nexen’s Buzzard oil and gas production platform in 2005.
