Aker Solutions has been awarded a front-end engineering and design (FEED) contract by Equinor to prepare the Kvitebjørn platform for production from the Atlantis subsea tie-in project.
Atlantis is a gas condensate discovery in the northern North Sea, 35 kilometers southeast of the Gullfaks field. The discovery is estimated to comprise three production wells, with a pressure depletion recovery strategy.
Aker Solutions’ scope is to prepare the topside facilities on the Kvitebjørn platform to accommodate production from the new Atlantis field, leveraging existing infrastructure. The FEED contract includes an option for engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning assistance (EPCIc).
“This is a front-runner tie-in project where we aim to demonstrate how disciplined simplification can unlock real value. Together with Equinor, we are reducing traditional requirements and lowering complexity and cost. In addition, productivity improvements enabled by AI and digitalization will be embedded into the project,” said Paal Eikeseth, executive vice president and head of Aker Solutions' Life Cycle segment.
In January 2026, Aker Solutions signed a new maintenance and modifications frame agreement with Equinor, including expanded responsibilities for the Kvitebjørn field, which is expected to create operational synergies for the tie‑in contract.
“Atlantis represents one of more than a hundred tie-backs that will be developed on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS) in the years to come. These projects play a significant role in supporting Europe’s energy security going forward,” said Eikeseth.
Several Aker Solutions locations will be engaged in the project. Project management and detail engineering will be executed by Aker Solutions` Bergen office with support from colleagues in Mumbai.
The FEED work will start immediately. The option for the EPCIc scope is expected to be exercised in the beginning of 2027.
