Statoil: The largest project portfolio ever
Statoil now has a larger project portfolio than ever before. We have more than 100 projects in the portfolio, 61 of which are in the implementation phase in 2014.

The total facility capex for the projects in the implementation phase is NOK 205 billion.

This is the total development cost for projects headed by Statoil – not Statoil’s share. The figure does not include drilling and well.
Almost 80% of these investments are made on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS).

“These are very exciting times for Statoil. We are developing both new and old discoveries at the same time as we have projects that enhance recovery and extend the productive life of aging installations,” says Anders Opedal, senior vice president for projects in Statoil.

Statoil has eight mega projects in the implementation phase now in addition to Gudrun, which came on stream in April. Mega projects are projects with investments in excess of NOK 12 billion – or particularly complicated projects.

More underway

Some 60 projects are in the early phase, i.e. no investment decision has yet been made.

Most of these are also on the NCS. Phase one of the largest project, Johan Sverdrup, is preliminarily estimated at NOK 100 to 120 billion. The investment decision for Johan Sverdrup will be made next year.

“This shows that the NCS has a key role in Statoil for many years to come,” says Ivar Aasheim, Statoil’s head of field development on the NCS.

Several million man-hours

In Statoil some 2,400 people are involved in the projects in our portfolio, but most man-hours are logged by our suppliers.

As many as 39 million man-hours have been completed in the projects that Statoil has been responsible for in the past 12 months. This represents more than 22,000 man-years (We have here calculated with one man-year without vacation - 1,750 hours).
