SOFREGAZ the french subsidiary of MAIRE TECNIMONT wins new gas contracts in Algeria
Maire Tecnimont S.p.A., through its French subsidiary Sofregaz, which is specialized in the natural gas sector, has signed five contracts with Sonatrach, the Algerian oil company. Under the contracts Sofregaz will execute Conceptual Design and Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) to expand the Sonatrach gas transmission network. The total value of the five contracts is approximately €44 million and the expected date of completion is August 2010. These contracts renew the historical presence of Sofregaz in Algeria, where the French company has been working since 1959.

The main project is the FEED for the new GR5 gas pipeline, which will be 800 km long and will transport to the Hassi R’Mel area all future gas coming from the new fields currently under development in the South-West. The second project refers to the relocation of the existing National Gas Dispatching Center (CNDG) from Hassi R’Mel – which is currently the starting point for the main gas export pipelines to Maghreb and Southern Europe such as MEG, Medgaz, Trans-Mediterranean and Galsi – to a new site to accommodate the expected increase of gas capacity. The other three projects relate to the installation of air coolers on the fifteen existing compressor stations along the GZ1, GZ2 and GZ3 gas pipelines from Hassi R’Mel to the coastal city of Arzew, as well as three compressor stations along the GR4 and GZ5 gas pipelines.

“We are delighted to renew our cooperation with such a prestigious client as Sonatrach” stated Fabrizio Di Amato, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Maire Tecnimont S.p.A. “Through these five projects our Group will contribute to the Algerian investment plan for expanding and upgrading the gas transmission system of the country”.
