SGS has been awarded a contract to provide welding and crane fabrication inspections in Australia and Malaysia.
A large energy and petrochemicals company awarded SGS a contract to provide welding and crane fabrication inspections at project sites in Sydney and Kuala Lumpur.

Four SGS experts including a lead crane inspector, subsea welding inspector, project coordinator and a project manager will work on the project fabricating heavy duty cranes to be used in shipbuilding yards in Korea. SGS is currently serving this particular client with ongoing packages at projects in Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, the UK, Canada and other countries.

SGS was chosen for this specific project after proving itself a reliable partner delivering overall quality services and due to the extensive SGS experience and competence in projects of this kind.

SGS Weld Examination

During the twelve-month project, slated to start on February 25, 2013, SGS inspectors will conduct quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) fabrication inspections according to applicable manufacturing standards.

The SGS experts will conduct precise inspections in order to identify, analyse and eliminate failed welds and to assure the safety of heavy duty cranes to be used in the shipbuilding yards. Applying extensive knowledge and experience and utilising a wide variety of testing methods, SGS inspectors will pinpoint discontinuities in welds and recommend solutions.

SGS Crane Inspection

Owners and operators of cranes and lifting and hoisting equipment must ensure that such heavy equipment is secure and meets mandatory requirements. SGS crane, hoisting and lifting equipment safety and compliance inspections do just that.

SGS leads the world in providing inspection, testing, verification and certification of all types of crane, hoisting and lifting equipment offering unrivaled expertise, experience and equipment to carry out professional statutory and voluntary inspection.

With independent inspection in accordance with all applicable regulations, standards and engineering practices, SGS will assure that all these associated regulatory requirements are met at both the Australian and Malaysian project sites.

SGS specialists will ensure the safe and proper working capability and condition of the crane equipment intended for use in the Korean shipyards. SGS maintenance of equipment capability and availability will maximise uptime and planned outages to minimise operational impact.

As a leading supplier, SGS is accredited to perform conformity assessments as well as statutory and voluntary inspections on cranes and hoisting and lifting equipment around the world. In addition, SGS experts provide training for crane and elevating platform operators in accordance with local and international standards.

In this latest project, SGS inspections services will include checking brakes, clutches, sheaves and wire rope assemblies. SGS will conduct design studies and review calculations. Skilled SGS professionals will perform dynamic and static load testing and inspect all structural load bearing members, including sheaves. Crane girders, rails and overhead crane columns will be examined to assure structural integrity and line level and span crane gantry will be surveyed.

SGS experts will conduct non-destructive testing (NDT) on load hooks to expose cracks and visual inspection to find distortions. Operational tests will be administered to assure units are functioning properly.

SGS inspections will be conducted prior to the initial use of any mechanical, structural, electrical and safety systems or wire ropes and chains with periodic inspections continuing after equipment introduction. Safety devices will be re-examined and regulatory compliance and remnant life assessments will be made. SGS specialists will also supervise repairs.

SGS is extremely pleased to assist in this distinguished project.
