PGNiG’s new oil and gas discovery in Norway
PGNiG Upstream International (PGNiG UI), a subsidiary of Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo SA and a partner in the Gina Krog production licence, has concluded the drilling of an exploratory well on the Norwegian shelf. The results of preliminary geological and reservoir analyses indicate the possible presence of hydrocarbon accumulations with recoverable reserves in the range 6.29m−12.6m boe.

The new discovery is located within the area of a licence in which Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo holds an interest, purchased in 2014 from Total E&P Norge through PGNiG UI. The East-3 prospect is located in the North Sea, approximately 250 km west of the Norwegian coastline.

The main purpose of the drilling work was to confirm the presence of commercial hydrocarbons. A number of specialist tests performed while drilling will enable to accurately estimate the structure’s petroleum potential. The well was drilled with the use of the Songa Trym rig, which will be transferred to the English shelf once work on the prospect is completed.

The operator of the Gina Krog production licence is Statoil Petroleum, holding a 58.5% interest. The partners are Total E&P Norge AS (30%), PGNiG UI (8%) and Det norske oljeselskap ASA (3.3%).

Currently, PGNiG UI holds interests in 15 licences located on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, including in two as the operator. The company is producing hydrocarbons from four fields (Skarv, Morvin, Vilje and Vale), and is developing further two fields (Snadd and Gina Krog). The company also plans to participate in this year’s licensing rounds (APA and 23rd round) in order to acquire new areas for further exploration.
