CVR Refining, LP announced that it has begun its investigation into the cause of a fire that occurred yesterday, July 29, at approximately 12:30 a.m. in an isomerization unit at its Coffeyville refinery. Four employees were injured and remain hospitalized. The identities and conditions of those injured have not been released.
“On behalf of our company, I would like to express our deepest concern for our injured colleagues,” said Jack Lipinski, CVR Refining’s chief executive officer. “We are currently providing support and assistance to these employees and their families.
“We are fully cooperating with OSHA and are conducting a thorough investigation to determine what happened,” he said. “We plan to identify any steps that might be taken to avoid a similar incident in the future as we remain steadfast in our commitment to safety.”
The refinery was shut down subsequent to the fire and remains down at this time.
